Results of the Intermediate BM survey

Thank you to everyone in the class for completing the survey on how you felt the course has gone so far. Here are some of the results:
  • 43% of you think you did worse than expected in your prelim with only 13% thinking they did better.
  • 74% of you did between 0-4 hours study overall for the prelim.
  • Most of you felt either very prepared, prepared or OK for all the Units.
  • 87% of people were either happy or very happy with the resources we give out.
  • 96% felt either happy or very happy with the quality of teaching.
  • There was a mixed response to the quality of slides, time allocated to each unit and time allocated to revision. Although most people were either very happy, happy or OK, 13% did feel unhappy with the quality of slides, 13% were unhappy or very unhappy with time allocated to each unit and 17% were unhappy with the time allocated to revision in class.
  • 61% of people felt they learn best from teacher led teaching.
  • Pupil led teaching was mixed - 30% liked it, 26% thought it OK and 39% didn't like it as a way to learn.
  • Practical work and group work were highly regarded ways of learning for people.
  • Personal reading and internet based research received mix reactions.
  • 16 of the 23 people in the class are intending to take either Higher Business Management or Intermediate 2 Business Management next year.
  • 100% of people felt their teacher supported them throughout the course.
  • 96% felt the teacher understood their own learning needs.
  • 100% people felt they sat the most relevant level for them.
  • 87% would recommend the course to someone in S2.
I also asked people what they thought they could have done to improve the course for those studying it next year. Here are a few of the comments:
  • More time for doing past papers (a lot of people suggested this).
  • Get pupils more involved.
  • More time to understand each unit.
  • More practical work to help make the more work memorable.
I also asked what you think you would differently in preparation for the Prelim if you could do it again. Here are some of your responses:
  • More past papers (again, that came out a lot).
  • Study more hours and read the questions carefully.
  • Looked over more of the notes that I was unsure of.
  • Focus more on areas that I struggled in rather than general revision.
  • I would have studied what was taught in class that day, at night.
  • Revise more out of class, attended supported study.
  • Prepare more thoroughly by practicing the command words more.
The information you gave me will certainly help when I am teaching my current S3 Intermediate class. Thanks again!

Friday 19 February 2010

As you have now sat your Prelim exam and we move towards revision work for the final exam, I would greatly appreciate your feedback on how you felt the course has gone. This will allow us to ensure we continue doing the things we are good at and develop the things you think we need to improve.

Click on the link below to access the survey (you will need to speak to your teacher to get the password).
